Leaked image shows Windows Phone 8 live lockscreen

A new image that was leaked to a Nokia fan site shows a live lockscreen feature that will purportedly be coming to Windows Phone 8 devices.

An image obtained by Nokia Innovation shows a lockscreen that can be customized to let applications provide live information, such as an ESPN lockscreen that shows score updates for NFL games. The image, seen above, shows three live lockscreens: the aforementioned ESPN lockscreen, a Bing lockscreen and a USA Today lockscreen. It's not known if the lockscreens will be integrated with apps or if they will be separate downloads for Windows Phone 8 devices.

The new lockscreen could tie in with other features of the new operating system, which is said to emphasize "Live Apps," according to leaked promotional materials. Those marketing materials show a similar gesture system to Windows 8, as users can swipe from one side of the screen "to explore Live Apps."

Microsoft is hosting a launch event for Windows Phone 8 in San Francisco on Monday. European launch events will also take place the same day.
