Microsoft: 250 million people are now using SkyDrive

In December, Microsoft announced that over 200 million people were using SkyDrive, its cloud data-storage service. Today, the company announced yet another milestone for SkyDrive, stating that the number of users has increased to 250 million.

Today's blog post also includes a new infographic, shown below, that shows some of the highlights for SkyDrive in the past year, including adding an Android app in August, an Xbox 360 app in December, and making SkyDrive the default save location for documents made in Office 365 and Office 2013, which now has over one billion documents stored on its servers.

However, not everything has gone according to plan. In March, Microsoft experienced an outage of many of its online services, including SkyDrive, that it later blamed on an overheated data center. Despite this, it's clear that Microsoft is moving more of its online services to a cloud-based system and SkyDrive is one of its major pillars of those plans.

The big question: Where does SkyDrive go next? Microsoft didn't offer any details today as part of its 250 million-user milestone concerning their plans for SkyDrive going forward, saying only, "We look forward to bringing you even more awesome features in the future."
