Microsoft announces first set of games supported by Xbox One backwards compatibility

Later this week the Xbox One will be seeing a large scale update, bringing a range of new features to the console, while improving overall speed and stability. The update is largely influenced by Windows 10 and will run on the same kernel used by many other existing versions of the operating system.

Arguably one of the biggest additions included with this update is the ability to play select Xbox 360 games on Xbox One hardware. Games supported by the program will run in an emulation of the Xbox 360 operating system, made possible with technologies offered by Windows 10. Today, it was announced via the Xbox Wire blog that 104 titles will be supported on November 12th, with a more titles arriving in December.

The following games are supported by backwards compatibility, and will be playable on November 12th when the update arrives publicly:

It may be disappointing to see some classic titles absent from the list, however it has been confirmed that select games from the Call of Duty, Bioshock and Halo franchises will be arriving in the near future. The above list largely consists of games published by Microsoft Studios, therefore it is safe to assume that a wider range of titles will be supported in the coming months, as more publishers show their interest in the program.
