Microsoft announces new firmware updates for Lumia 830, 950, 950 XL, LG Lancet

Microsoft has announced four new firmware updates today, including updates for Lumia 830, 950, 950 XL, and LG Lancet. As we noted earlier today, Microsoft has said that some devices would require firmware updates prior to the Windows 10 Mobile update.

The firmware that's being made available for the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, 1078.38.16025, will be available in select markets. Since Microsoft is still working on bringing firmware updates to those in the Windows Insider Program, the user must first switch his phone to the Production ring through the Windows Insider app to receive the new firmware.

Here's what's new:

  • Stability fixes

  • Improvements for GPS reliability

  • Improvements for call audio quality

The Nokia Lumia 830 and LG Lancet are receiving firmware updates as well; however, only in the United States. The AT&T model of the Lumia 830 and the Verizon exclusive LG Lancet are the devices receiving the new firmware.

There is one caveat. Windows Phone 8.1 is required to receive this update. Insiders that are running Windows 10 Mobile can use the Windows Device Recovery Tool to roll back to Windows Phone 8.1 if they wish to receive the new firmware.

Here are the version numbers:

  • LG Lancet [820.10300.11.101]

  • Lumia 830 [2179.0.15455.24047]

Microsoft says that early March is their next milestone and that's when they plan to make firmware updates available to those on the Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview.
