Moto Z4 unboxing and first impressions

After many leaks, Motorola today announced the Moto Z4, its latest flagship-ish handset. It's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset rather than the Snapdragon 855 that you'd find in a flagship, but it's also priced at $499.

That means that the handset's main competitor is going to be the Google Pixel 3a XL. One thing that it has going for it is that you can upgrade it to 5G with the 5G Moto Mod. In fact, if you're opening a new line with Verizon, you can get a bundle with the device and the 5G Moto Mod for $440, which is much cheaper than any other 5G device out there.

Motorola also boasted its new 48-megapixel camera, ditching the dual-lens setup that it's been using for the last couple of years. It keeps portrait mode, but you lose the ability to edit the portrait mode after you take the picture. The sensor uses quad pixel technology, combining four pixels into one for better low-light performance. This leaves you with a 12-megapixel shot, so if you were hoping to use that 48-megapixel sensor for some lossless zoom, you're out of luck.
