Power BI On-premises data gateway March update is now available

Last week, Microsoft announced an overhauled searched experience for Power BI, shifting to a more global search system. A couple of days before that, the firm unveiled new features for the mobile version of its data analytics service that focused on providing more control to users.

Today, the March update for Power BI On-premises data gateway has been revealed, bringing it more in-line with other recent changes to the service as a whole. The latest release bumps On-premises data gateway to version 3000.31.3.

Those who use the gateway service or have been following our previous coverage regarding it will know that it helps make data transfer from on-premises to various Microsoft cloud services possible - including Power BI. As always, the March release also brings an updated version of the Mashup Engine. This essentially means that reports published to Power BI and refreshed via the Gateway can attain the same query performance times as in the latest Desktop version.

There are virtually no more changes that have been introduced this month. However, there is a rather interesting piece of news for users that are using an older version of the data gateway. Moving ahead, only the last six releases will receive support. What this means is that older gateways will need to be upgraded in case any support from the relevant team is required. It remains to be seen whether the set of supported releases will also continuously move one step ahead as further updates are released.

You can download the standard edition of On-Premises data gateway's March release here, while the personal version can be obtained here.
