Samsung's fabled Galaxy Home Mini speaker may be closer to reality than ever, nearly two years after the company announced its foray into the smart speaker market. Earlier today, the Korean Samsung website published an article about the fabled device, and while the post was deleted soon after, it was spotted by TizenHelp before that could happen.
Among the many details included in the post was a release date - February 12. This seems to make a lot of sense, considering Samsung is holding its Unpacked event just one day prior, making it a good stage for an official announcement.
Accessing the original blog post is no longer possible, but Android Police seems to have translated most of the feature set that Samsung is advertising for the Galaxy Home Mini. As expected, you'll be able to control various devices through Bixby and the two built-in far-reach microphones, and you can also send and receive messages even if your phone isn't nearby. When connected with compatible smart devices, the Galaxy Home Mini can warn the user if an appliance isn't working properly or if it detects smoke.
Of course, you can also use it as a speaker, and it has 5W speakers from AKG, offering 360-degree surround sound. Like many other smart speakers, you can also create multi-room setups so you can listen to the same music anywhere in the house.
Last month, reports hinted that the Galaxy Home Mini was indeed coming this year, and that Samsung was shifting its focus to home control, more so than a Google Assistant-like experience. The information in today's announcement seems to corroborate that. If the information is accurate and doesn't change in the meantime, it shouldn't be long until we have official confirmation of the release.
