This Windows Phone 9 concept shows the potential for the platform

With Windows Phone 8.1 right around the corner, one of Neowin’s forum members took a stab at creating a concept for Windows Phone 9.

The image at the top of this post is a concept of what Windows Phone 9 could look like, or in another sense, is a visionary perspective of where Windows Phone could be headed. And to be honest, we love it.

The subtle transparency of the live tiles with the flat textures looks fantastic and with a blurred background, really makes the entire OS look modern. By doing away with the flat only design that is currently utilized, the blending of subtle transparency fits the color scheme really well.

Thanks to the SDK leak for Windows Phone 8.1, it looks like backgrounds may be coming to the next update for Windows Phone so the above concept, may not be too far from reality.

There are a couple more concept mockups posted in the forum, which you can view here, and we are curious to know what you, dear reader, think of the concept. Do you like this direction or do think you think it’s trying too hard to be modern and Microsoft should stick to its flat only design scheme?
