US HD-DVD Launch Pushed Back to Early 2006

The US launch of the HD-DVD format won't take place until early next year according to one Toshiba official, and a lack of coordination between hardware and software partners is to blame. The official did note that the Japanese launch of the format was still scheduled to take place before the end of this year. The delay statesite could pose a real problem for HD-DVD, as it had the time to market advantage over the Sony-backed Blu-Ray format which should launch this coming Spring in the United States.

As the format war rages on, the close proximity of the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray launches should only serve to add fuel to the fire.
