Honor introduces the View40 and refreshed MagicBooks in China

Today, during an event dedicated to the Chinese market, Honor announced a couple of devices - the new Honor View40 smartphone and new MagicBook 14 and 15 laptops. While the announcements are exclusive to China for now, the company also shared the news globally, likely because the devices will be coming to other markets at some point in the future. It's also because Honor highlighted its strategy going forward, now that it's a separate company from Huawei.

Honor affirmed its commitment to continuing serving people worldwide, and it highlighted a number of confirmed partnerships it has with companies such as Microsoft, AMD, Intel, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Samsung, and Sony. This should allow the company to continue building devices, free from the restrictions imposed on Huawei by the U.S. government. Interestingly, though, Google isn't mentioned, so it would seem we still won't be seeing Google mobile services on Honor phones for now.

Turning to more concrete announcements, Honor introduced the View40 smartphone, which is powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 1000+ chipset and 8GB of RAM. The battery is 4,000mAh and supports 66W SuperCharge so you should be able to top up in less than an hour, plus it can also charge wirelessly at 50W.

It has a 6.72-inch OLED "waterfall" display with a resolution of 2676x1236, with 10-bit color support and full coverage of DCI-P3, plus a 120Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch response rate. As for the camera setup, it has a 50MP RYYB sensor for the main camera, along with an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP macro lens. The selfie camera is 16MP.

The Honor View40 is available in China from today and costs 3,599 yuan ($555.33) for 128GB of internal storage or 3,999 yuan ($617.05) for the 256GB model.

Honor is also refreshing the MagicBook 14 and 15 - the former of which we reviewed last year - with Intel Tiger Lake processors up to a Core i7-1165G7 and Nvidia GeForce MX450 for graphics. Not much more is known aside from support for Wi-Fi 6 with speeds up to 2400Mbps. Pricing and availability also weren't given.

And if you don't live in China, Honor also announced that the Intel-based MagicBook Pro it announced at CES is now available to pre-order in the UK with estimated shipping between February 4 and 10. It costs £949.99 and it will come to other markets later this quarter.
