All-new AMD Beige Goby surfaces, Navi 24 laptop GPUs forthcoming?

Alex Deucher, who is an AMD graphics driver developer for Linux, has introduced initial support for a new Radeon GPU. The new chip is codenamed "Beige Goby" and so far, several features have been enabled on this chip which can be viewed here.

Beige Goby is likely the fourth variant of AMD's Navi family of GPUs. The company codenames its Navi chips based on the names of fishes. The codenames for Navi 21, 22, and 23 are known which likely implies that this new moniker is probably going to be used for Navi 24.

Details on Navi 24 are sparse but it is rumored to be a mobile discrete graphics chip (via @patrickschur_) that will supposedly come in two variants. The larger variant is said to feature configurable total graphics power (cTGP). The two chips are:

  • Navi 24 XM: 35 / 42.5 / 50 W cTGP, and
  • Navi 24 XML: 25 W TGP.

The table below lists the codenames for the Navi family of GPUs:

GPU chip Codename Compute Units (CUs)
Navi 21 Sienna Cichlid 80 CUs
Navi 22 Navy Flounder 40 CUs
Navi 23 Dimgrey Cavefish 32 CUs
Navi 24 Beige Goby N/A

Back when AMD had unveiled the Navi 22-based Radeon RX 6700 XT, the company teased that RX 6000 series laptop chips were "coming soon". As such, we should expect to hear more about Navi 24 soon.
