Acer unveils the Liquid Extend, a laptop-style Continuum extender for Windows 10 Mobile

Acer unveiled its new Windows 10 Mobile flagship, the Liquid Jade Primo, last September, and pre-orders opened in Europe earlier this year, priced at around €599 EUR (roughly $675 USD). Acer referred to the device as "your pocket PC", as its high-end specs support the operating system's PC-like Continuum feature.

The device has been shipping for a few weeks in various markets, including Germany and Portugal, but today, Acer announced plans to expand the capabilities of the Jade Primo with a new accessory called the Liquid Extend.

Acer described it "a laptop kit [that] converts the Primo into a laptop". Very little was revealed about the Liquid Extend, but it appears to offer very similar functionality to the Mobile Extender that HP announced alongside its upcoming Elite x3 flagship, which is expected to arrive this summer.

The HP version will offer owners a portable Continuum experience, allowing them to connect their handset to the Extender, and use it like a laptop, running off the hardware on the phone. The Extender itself is essentially just a display and keyboard with an onboard battery, but no processor, RAM or storage of its own.

It seems that Acer's Liquid Extend will do much the same thing, although the company hasn't yet shared any further details, such as battery life, pricing or availability.

Acer also showed off the Liquid Jade Primo Premium Pack which - along with the handset itself, and a flip-cover - includes a mouse, keyboard, phone and monitor, making it easy for users to take advantage of the Continuum functionality at their desks.

While the handset is priced at around €599, the Premium Pack costs around €799 ($900). It's not yet clear if Acer plans to offer the device in the United States, but it is available to buy in various European and Asian markets.
