Intel laptop battery deal could double runtime

According to a report by The Inquirer Intel is working with Zinc Matrix Power to produce a laptop battery that can give up to 10 hours worth of power. Don't expect to get this technology anytime soon. This product will not be introduced to the public until September 2006 at Intel's Developer Forum.

Zinc Matrix Power said that it's signed a collaboration agreement with Intel to work on a battery technology for laptops, which could potentially result in laptop battery life of up to ten hours. Zinc Matrix Power is developing a rechargeable, polymer-based alkaline battery which it claims has shown in lab tests approximately two times the energy-to-volume of today's standard lithium-based batteries. The polymer based technology uses a water-based electrolyte which, when combined with the plastic case, will minimise the risk of fire.
