Microsoft launches official Channel 9 Windows 8 app; Yahoo Finance released

Microsoft continues to add to the number of its own in-house Modern apps for Windows 8. A few days ago, the company quietly released the official app for its Channel 9 website, offering a quick way to video the various software development videos that Microsoft regularly publishes on the site.

The new Channel 9 app also allows users to pin their favorite shows from the site to the Windows 8 Start screen and alerts users if there are any new episodes to check out via the Channel 9 live tile. The app supports both Progressive or Smooth Streaming technology for its videos, and you can also download the videos for offline viewing; the Channel 9 app also supports the snapped view mode common in many Windows 8 apps.

In related news, Yahoo continues to add to the number of Windows 8 apps it publishes. It started with the Yahoo Mail app in December, and continues a few weeks ago with the Yahoo Sports app. This week, the third Yahoo-made Windows 8 app, Yahoo Finance, made its way to the Windows Store.

Yahoo's financial news and information section is one of the most popular on the site, and the Windows 8 app offers up a way to keep up with your favorite financial stocks, along with Yahoo Finance news and video from the world of business. It allows users to set up their own custom watch list of stocks and news so you can see how well Microsoft, Yahoo, or any other publicly traded company is doing every day.
