OnePlus 5 and 5T to inherit selfie portrait mode in future update

While the OnePlus 6 is the latest and greatest on the block as far as OnePlus handsets are concerned, that hasn't stopped the company from showing smartphones from previous generations a bit of update love. In fact, earlier this month, open betas of OxygenOS were released for both the OnePlus 5 and 5T boasting support for Project Treble along with interface and launcher improvements.

Although OnePlus may be paying the most attention to its latest-generation model, which picked up "selfie portrait mode" in HydrogenOS 5.1.6 at the beginning of last month, that hasn't stopped the company from porting the feature back to the 5 and 5T. While the former flagship phones already included a portrait photo mode for the rear camera, there are now confirmed plans to bring selfie portrait mode to both smartphones. The capability will likely work in a similar fashion to the OnePlus 6T which features a solitary 16MP front-facing camera used in conjunction with software to create a blurred background effect.

At present, aside from a general commitment to deliver the feature, OnePlus stopped short of specifying a date as to when owners of the 5 and 5T can expect selfie portrait mode to hit their devices.
