Remedy's Control is free to claim on the Epic Games Store

Control artwork for Epic Games giveaway

Another mystery giveaway from the Epic Games Store got its scheduled reveal today, which turned out to be a copy of Control, the Remedy Entertainment developed action game from 2019. This freebie replaces the Frostpunk promotion that had been running since last Thursday.

Control puts you into the shoes of Jesse Faden, the newly realized director of the 'Federal Bureau of Control', a secret government agency that investigates paranormal events. Set in the same universe as Remedy's Alan Wake, the game has you exploring the innards of the agency's perplexing headquarters, The Oldest House, to fight back against an invader while using a myriad of superpowers.

Here's how the store page describes the experience:

A corruptive presence has invaded the Federal Bureau of Control…Only you have the power to stop it. The world is now your weapon in an epic fight to annihilate an ominous enemy through deep and unpredictable environments. Containment has failed, humanity is at stake. Will you regain control?

And here are the minimum specifications:

  • OS: Windows 7, 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4690 / AMD FX 4350
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 / AMD Radeon R9 280X
  • DirectX: 11
  • Additional Features: Widescreen support 21:9 / Remappable controls / Uncapped frame-rate / G-Sync / Freesync support

The promotion is handing you the base game, so you'll have to purchase the Season Pass – currently discounted to $7.49 – if you want the full experience that includes The Foundation and AWE expansions, the latter of which is an Alan Wake tie-in.

The Control giveaway will last through next Thursday, June 17, and you can claim a copy on the Epic Games Store here to keep forever. As the mystery promotions end, Epic has revealed the games that will be freebies on its store next week as copies of Overcooked! 2 and Hell is other demons.
