Sorry; no Samsung Galaxy S IV reveal at CES 2013

On Monday, Samsung released a teaser video that hinted strongly the company had some major announcement to make at the CES 2013 trade show in early January. Many people speculated that one of the reveals would be the Galaxy S IV, the next smartphone in the best selling Android franchise.

Unfortunately, there's now word that attendees of CES 2013 should not get their hopes up on a new Galaxy S smartphone announcement. CNet.com reports, via their own unnamed sources, that Samsung will be revealing a number of new products at the show, including some new televisions. However, the company won't be making any mobile device reveals at the show this year.

Indeed, the article says that many smartphone companies are waiting until late February to make some new product announcements. That's when the 2013 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain will be held. For its part, CNet.com's article says that Samsung will actually bypass the Mobile World Congress in favor of holding its own mobile phone press event.

In retrospect, it simply would not make sense for Samsung to announce the Galaxy S IV smartphone in January. The Galaxy S III was only launched in late May and continues to sell well. The larger Galaxy Note II was launched in October. It may still be several months before we hear anything official about the next Galaxy device.
