Yesterday we reported that Spotify were abandoning its Windows Phone app and would not release any further updates, based on a customer service rep's statement.
A community manager at Spotify has now released a refreshed statement that explains that they are not abandoning Windows Phone, and instead are rolling out an update today to the Spotify app which will improve support for Windows 10 Mobile devices.
The statement reads as follows:
Our main goal at Spotify is to offer the best music experience on the market, covering all platforms. To clarify our recent information regarding the Windows Phone experience, we will continue supporting the Windows Phone 8.1 experience moving forward and we are actually improving our support for Windows 10 in our coming update 5.2, which will be available starting today.
The customer service rep who released the initial statement that Spotify was abandoning Windows Phone was 'misinformed' and that the previous statement is not true or accurate in any nature.
The good news is that Spotify is not abandoning the Windows platform - and instead will continue to keep its app updated, with a new update releasing today, version 5.2. This update will improve compatibility with Windows 10 Mobile devices, but there's no further information on any other changes that may be included.
