This is why the Galaxy Note8 won't have a fingerprint reader embedded under the display

Many had high hopes that Samsung would embed a fingerprint sensor in its display with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. But, as the time drew closer, a source from within admitted that it would not be arriving due to the firm running out of time to perfect the technology. While there was still hope for it to arrive on the Galaxy Note8, those hopes were dashed a couple weeks ago when a Samsung executive confirmed it would not be on the upcoming handset.

So how far did Samsung get with the Galaxy Note8 before it called it quits? According to an insider, it appears the firm actually got the technology to work, but inconsistencies in the display's brightness caused it to abort the embedded fingerprint sensor. The problem resulted in a hotspot around the area where the sensor was embedded into the display. Naturally, Samsung would be wary of taking risks when it comes to malfunctions in its upcoming Galaxy Note8.

If leaked images of the front glass of the handset are to be believed, the Note8 should look similar to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, only being a bit wider in appearance. Like its Galaxy S8 counterpart, the device will offer a near bezel-less look and could be one of the first handsets on the market to offer the yet unannounced and unconfirmed Qualcomm Snapdragon 836 processor. As we recently reported, we might not have to wait long to confirm the look and specifications of the device, since it is rumored to be unveiled at an Unpacked event towards the end of August.
