After a series of leaks regarding the next generation of Xperia X-Series devices, Sony has unveiled four new Android smartphones at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
The quartet can be divided into two premium devices, the Xperia XZ Premium and XZs, and two mid-range devices: the Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra. The XZ Premium is the flagship model, sporting a 5.5-inch 4K HDR display, and Sony's Motion Eye camera technology which provides 960fps slow motion video capture and playback. The XZs also features the Motion Eye technology, but comes with a slightly smaller 5.2 inch display.
As for the mid-range offerings, the Xperia XA1 sports a 5-inch 720p display, whereas the XA1 Ultra has a larger 6-inch display. Both XA devices feature 23-megapixel rear-facing cameras, which Sony claims will "surpass camera expectations." To this end, the XA Ultra features a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, designed specifically for "selfie lovers". All of these devices will ship with the latest version of Google's mobile operating system, Android Nougat. Full specification of the Xperia XA1 and XZ devices can be viewed on Sony's website.
These devices are due for release this Spring, around the same time as Sony plans to release the recently debuted Xperia Touch projector.The Xperia XZ devices will be available from early April 2017 in the colours "Ice Blue", "Warm Silver" and black, while the XZ Premium will be available globally in in "Luminous Chrome" and "Deepsea Black" from late Spring The XA1 and XA1 Ultra will also be available from Spring 2017 in white, black, pink and gold.
