Earlier today, it was reported that Samsung updated its product listing for the Galaxy Note8 to say that the device will support 4K video capture at 60fps. As it turns out, that was just a typo, Samsung has confirmed to Neowin, and the product listing once again says 30fps.
Even though the information came from an official product listing, it was a bit curious. Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset only supports 4K capture at 30fps, and that's the SoC that the device uses in the United States. Interestingly, international variants use Samsung's in-house Exynos 8895 processor, which can support 4K capture at up to 120fps.
What that means is that if Samsung wanted to implement the feature, it would only be able to do so on certain models of the Galaxy Note8.
Since Apple isn't limited by Qualcomm's hardware, it's now the only company that sells a phone with the feature. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are available for pre-order now, and the iPhone X will be available in November, all of which support 4K 60fps video recording.
Unfortunately, if you live in the Android world and can't wait to get your hands on the feature, you'll likely have to wait until the spring round of flagships, which will include the Galaxy S9.
