Acer's new Swift laptops are the lightest ever, now with dGPUs and Ice Lake CPUs

Ahead of IFA 2019 today, Acer announced a series of new PCs, including two from its Swift lineups. The Swift 3 and Swift 5 are, as always, aimed at being thin and light, but now they're adding 10th-generation Intel CPUs and discrete graphics.

Acer says that the new Swift 5 is the world's lightest 14-inch laptop, and it's unclear what the firm meant by this, since the Swift 7 is 100 grams lighter. The Swift 5 weighs in at 990g and it's just 14.95mm thin, and now includes an option for with an Nvidia GeForce MX250. It also includes Intel's new 10nm Ice Lake processors, up to a Core i7-1065G7. Since it's not obvious by Intel's naming scheme anymore, the Core i7-1065G7 is a 15W U-series processor with Iris Plus graphics.

Acer says that the Swift 5 gets up to 12 and a half hours of battery life, and it supports fast charging. You'll get 4.5 hours of usage off of a 30-minute charge. It will be available in EMEA in September starting at €899, North America in November starting at $899.99, and China in Q3 starting at ¥7,499.

The new Swift 3 has the same CPU and GPU options as the Swift 5, although it's 15.95mm thick and weighs in at 1.19kg. It also comes with up to a 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM, Thunderbolt 3, and Wi-Fi 6. Also offering 12.5 hours of battery life, a half-hour charge will get you four hours of usage. The Full HD screen has 4.37mm bezels and an 84% screen-to-body ratio with Acer Color Intelligence and Acer ExaColor Technology.

The Swift 3 will be available in EMEA in September starting at €599, North America in November starting at $699.99, and China in Q3 starting at ¥4,999.

Acer also announced some Aspire C all-in-one PCs, which are just 6.8mm thin. It comes in 22-, 24-, and 27-inch Full HD options, 10th-generation Intel processors, and an Nvidia GeForce MX130. It has a privacy guard on the camera, four USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, up to 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD storage, and up to 32GB DDR4-2666 memory.

The Aspire C series will be coming to EMEA in December starting at €599 for the 22-inch model, North America next spring starting at $699 for the 24-inch model, and China in December starting at ¥3,399 for the 22-inch model. That's the only pricing and availability information that Acer provided.
