Amazon introduces Instant Pickup at five locations

Amazon has launched Instant Pickup – a free service that offers Prime and Prime Student members a “curated selection of daily essentials” which can be ready for pickup in two minutes or less. The fully staffed pickup locations are available in five cities including Los Angeles, Atlanta, Berkeley (California), Columbus (Ohio), and College Park (Maryland).

Some of the items that Prime and Prime Student members will be able to pickup include snacks, drinks, electronics, and some of Amazon's “most popular devices.” The Instant Pickup locations will store several Amazon devices including the Echo, Echo Dot, Fire TV and a selection of Fire tablets and Kindle e-readers.

Commenting on Instant Pickup, Ripley MacDonald, Director of Student Programs at Amazon, said:

“Instant Pickup is another way Amazon is making life more convenient for Prime members. As shopping behaviours continue to evolve, customers consistently tell us that they want items even faster. Whether it's a snack on-the-go, replacing a lost phone charger in the middle of a hectic day or adding Alexa to your life with an Echo, Instant Pickup saves Prime members time. While Instant Pickup is available at select pickup locations today, we're excited about bringing this experience to more customers soon.”

Amazon hopes to bring the services to more locations over the coming months. The company already operates 22 staffed pickup locations on or near campuses across the country which customers can ship their order to and pick them up later.
