Ever since the launch of the OnePlus 3T back in 2016, OnePlus has been releasing "T" series upgrades to its standard flagship devices in the second half of each year. However, the company has announced that it is breaking tradition as there will be no 9T handset to accompany the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro from earlier this year.
The Verge reports that OnePlus co-founder and CEO Pete Lau has revealed that the OnePlus 9 won't be getting a refresh. Furthermore, its OnePlus flagship launching next year will feature an Android-based OS that is essentially a unification of the codebases of OnePlus's OxygenOS and Oppo's ColorOS. According to Lau, this merger of the code was completed back in June when the two firms announced that they will be "integrating" more with each other.
The executive claimed that the unification ensures that devices running the new operating system will benefit from the "fast and smooth" experience offered by OxygenOS coupled with the "smart and feature-rich" ColorOS.
The new OS is not only exclusive to upcoming OnePlus devices but will be making its way to older handsets too. OnePlus 9 handsets are expected to get a beta version of it around October.
