OnePlus inadvertently confirms Nord branding for its upcoming affordable smartphone

OnePlus is expected to launch a more affordable smartphone in its lineup next month. The company confirmed its plans to introduce a “solid smartphone” at an affordable price and teased the impending launch yesterday. However, the exact branding details of the device are still unknown. Earlier rumors pointed to the phone being called the OnePlus 8 Lite, OnePlus Z, or OnePlus Nord.

The company said that those interested in the device should follow the OnePlusLiteZThing handle on Instagram. However, in a slip up of sorts, the firm accidentally posted an image of promotional material with the ‘Nord’ branding, on that handle. The post has since been removed. Mukul Sharma of MySmartPrice spotted the picture and posted it on Twitter. The photo looks to be a personalized card for the first 100 owners of the device.

The smartphone is expected to make its debut in Europe and India. It is reportedly slated to launch in India on July 10 with an asking price of ₹24,990 ($330). As for specifications, the company’s affordable offering is said to sport a Snapdragon 765G processor, coming with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The display will be a 6.55-inch 90Hz OLED unit. Photographic duties will be carried out by a triple shooter at the back, with the primary lens housing a 64MP sensor.

The Nord will be the successor to the OnePlus X, a mid-range smartphone that the company launched in 2015. It then ruled out a successor to the device in 2016, calling the X a one-off device. It will be interesting to see how the company pits the Nord against other offerings from the likes of Realme, Xiaomi, and Vivo in markets like India.
