Rumor: Latest Xbox World issue reveals next Xbox details

The final Xbox World magazine will be coming in December, but before that happens the publisher has used their penultimate issue to spill a bunch of details on the next Xbox, codenamed "Durango". According to an eight-page feature article, the next Xbox will use Blu-ray discs, introduce a second-generation Kinect, directional audio, an "innovative controller" and TV inputs as well as outputs. They also speculate the next Xbox will just be called "Xbox".

The report also details the hardware of the next Xbox development kits, which apparently come with a four-core chipset (with 16 logical cores) and a large 8 GB of RAM. Editor-in-chief Dan Dawkins expects that "unless something really dramatic changes, everything we reveal in our penultimate issue will be revealed long before E3 in June." The magazine also reports that augmented reality glasses with be introduced during the latter years of the console's life.

Also, using industry sources and past Microsoft leaks, the magazine has developed a 3D mock-up of the next generation console. Their render uses the same VaporMG magnesium alloy case used on the Surface, and the silver band has been modelled from the Wedge touch keyboard and Arc Touch mouse. "The future will be black, sharp and curved."

These leaked details line-up with a number of previous leaks, including the old Xbox 720 roadmap from June which listed DVR capabilities and a Blu-ray drive for the next Xbox, and SDK leaks featuring 8 GB of RAM and multi-core CPUs.
