Sea of Thieves crosses 25 million player mark, celebrates with free in-game goodies

Sea of Thieves 25 million players

Rare has been hitting milestone after milestone with its live service pirate adventure game Sea of Thieves since its launch all the way back in 2018. Earlier this year in March, the title crossed the 20 million player milestone, and already, it has added another five million pirates to its player count.

"With the introduction of Seasons earlier this year, and our epic crossover with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean in Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life, we’ve seen a huge influx of players casting off for the first time and enjoying all the new features and content," said Rare executive producer Joe Neate in a post on Xbox Wire. The crossover with Jack Sparrow and his crew he mentions pulled in over 4.8 million players just in June, making it the busiest month ever for the game.

To celebrate the 25 million player milestone, Rare is giving a special login bonus of in-game currencies. 25,000 Gold and 25 Doubloons are up for grabs to anyone who launches and logs into the game between October 19th (3pm BST) and October 26th (3pm BST) across PC and Xbox consoles.

At the same time, a lucky winner will get 25 million Gold richer when they hand in treasure during the aforementioned period. The winner will be randomly picked so make sure to hand in as much treasure as possible during the event.

The title just entered its fourth season of content last month, which revamped the sea floors with new types of vaults and strongholds for players to explore and plunder.
