Last week gamers everywhere noticed that PSN had been taken down for maintenance, Neowin reported that the reasoning behind its downtime was due to an ‘external intrusion’.
Sony has now posted an update and it doesn’t look very optimistic for its users. The company has said that for the time being the PSN and Qriocity services (which were also affected) have been suspended and that they are ‘working around the clock’ to get them both back online with the security that it is apparently missing.
They also stated that they are rebuilding their system in order to strengthen their network infrastructure so that they can try and avoid such a problem again. This of course makes it a much more time consuming job in order to get it online but Sony believes that the additional security is worth the wait.
It was speculated that the ‘external intrusion’ had been made by Anonymous who had been defending Geohot in a lawsuit against Sony over him jail breaking the PS3 and posting the information to allow others to run home-brew code on their PS3. Anonymous later denied the claims saying “while it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves Anonops was not related to this incident and does not take responsibility for whatever has happened. ”
