Xbox One Insiders in Preview Ring 3 can now try out the next feature update

While Microsoft was releasing the Creators Update for PC users that want to install it early today, that's old news for Xbox One users, who received the Update last week. In fact, Xbox Insiders are already on version 1704, which is the next feature update for the console, containing a number of "fan-inspired" features.

Last week, the company said that 1704 would show up in the Preview Beta ring by "mid-next week", but then it was available two days later. Today is when we would have expected that to happen, but instead, Preview Ring 3 users are getting their first taste of 1704.

The update contains a number of new features, although Microsoft says that not all of the listed changes are available in preview right now. The one feature that the firm pointed out in the release notes is Activity Reports:

  • Activity Reports
Activity reports are now available on Xbox One! You can now monitor your child's activity on Xbox One including web browsing, app & game usage, screen time limits (where available), and purchase history.

    To access activity reports:

    1. Navigate to account.microsoft.com/family.
    2. Sign in with your Microsoft account, and ensure there is at least one child account in your Family.
    3. In the top menu bar, navigate to the Family tab, select your child, and select Activity next to their account.
    4. Under Activity reporting, switch the toggle to "On".
    5. Check back in 24 hours to view your child's activity on Xbox One.

There are a couple of known issues to be aware of though:

  • Settings - Display & sound
The Audio output page is under construction and some of the new settings are not yet functional. New support is planned for Dolby Atmos for home theater, Dolby Atmos for headphones, and more in upcoming builds. An announcement will be made when these new features are ready to try out; enabling these settings now will have no effect.

  • Wireless Display
The Wireless Display app fails to launch and immediately crashes to Home.

The build number for this release is 15063.2011, or rs2_release_xbox_1704.170330-1900, and it's available in Preview Ring 3 now. As for when it will arrive in Preview Ring 4, it should be sometime this month. The version number indicates that it should be finalized during the month of April, and when that happens, it should be available in the lowest ring of the Xbox Insider Program.
