OnePlus says it's "actively working" on Android 7.0 Nougat for its flagship, the 3

The OnePlus X was unveiled three weeks after Google released Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but it took OnePlus just under a year to finally deliver that update to the device.

Meanwhile, Google has already released Android 7.0 Nougat, and many are wondering when that version will be available for their devices. OnePlus hasn't yet announced any detailed plans for its Nougat upgrade program, but it couldn't avoid the question in an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit this week.

Indeed, that question was asked many times by owners of the company's newest flagship in particular. In response to one such enquiry about when Nougat will be available for the OnePlus 3, Brian Yoon, the company's chief of ROM development said: "We cannot share a timeline right now, but we are already actively working on it."

OnePlus hasn't had a particularly good track record when it comes to delivering major updates. Last November, it said that it would release Marshmallow for the OnePlus 2 in Q1 of this year, but the update didn't arrive until June. At the same time, it said that the OnePlus X would be upgraded "as soon as possible", but the company only began its Marshmallow rollout to the X yesterday.
