Counter-Strike: Global Offensive receives its Panorama UI overhaul in beta

It was in January last year when Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) project lead Ido Magal revealed in an AMA on Reddit that one of the top priorities for Valve was to replace the game’s UI with Panorama before the end of 2017. Albeit with a delay, the developer today pushed out a major update for the game.

At the moment the new Panorama UI is only available as a beta, limiting players to practice with bots or play with a friend in an offline practice session. Valve describes the update as the “most substantial change to the look and feel of CS:GO since the game was released in 2012.”

This isn’t the first game to receive the Panorama treatment, with Dota 2’s Reborn update bringing similar UI enhancements to that game. It’s worth noting, however, that this update doesn’t upgrade the game to Valve’s new Source 2 engine, but is rather limited to simply overhauling the dated interface. Magal noted during the AMA that overhauling CS:GO with Source 2 might not be the best approach, for the moment.

Instructions on how to opt into the beta are available here, and feedback for the update can either be submitted at CSGOTeamFeedback@valvesoftware.com with #PanoramaUI in the subject or at the feedback thread on /r/GlobalOffensive.

It remains unclear when this update will be pushed live for all players, considering Valve’s timeframes are rarely predictable.
