AMD-based Surface Laptop 3 gets Windows 11-specific battery optimizations

Microsoft released a new firmware update for those owning the third-gen Surface Laptop with AMD processors. The March 2022 firmware update brings Windows 11-specific battery optimizations, new drivers, improvements for system stability, and more.

What is new in the March 2022 firmware update for Surface Laptop 3 AMD?

According to the changelog available on the official Microsoft Support website, the March 2022 firmware update for the Surface Laptop 3 with AMD processors brings the following:

  • Improvements for system stability and fixes for the bugs causing the blue screen of death.
  • Improved compatibility with the Surface Dock 2.
  • New graphics drivers with GPU stability improvements and bugfixes.
  • Windows 11 features for improved battery life.

Microsoft has already updated numerous Surface devices with a mysterious "Windows 11 feature" to improve battery life, but the company is yet to explain how it works. Interestingly, Microsoft released the exact battery optimizations for the Intel-based Surface Laptop 3 in October 2021, right after the initial Windows 11 release.

Microsoft says you can install the March 2022 firmware update for the AMD-based Surface Laptop 3 if your device runs Windows 10 May 2020 Update or newer. Also, there are no known issues in this update.
