Four Xbox 360 games getting Xbox One X True 4K makeover

Last week, Microsoft announced that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be enhanced for the Xbox One X, meaning that you'll be able to play it in 4K. That's not coming until 2018, but the good news is that the company announced today that it will be enhancing Halo 3 on November 7, along with three other Xbox 360 games.

That's right; Microsoft is enhancing Xbox 360 games that are playable on the Xbox One through the Backward Compatibility program, something that it never promised that it would do. The full list includes Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, Fallout 3, and Oblivion.

Halo 3 ($19.99)

The epic saga continues with Halo 3, the hugely anticipated third chapter in the highly successful and critically acclaimed Halo franchise created by Bungie. Master Chief returns to finish the fight, bringing the epic conflict between the Covenant, the Flood, and the entire human race to a dramatic, pulse-pounding climax.

Assassin's Creed ($19.99)

The Third Crusade is tearing the Holy Land apart. You are Altair, a Master Assassin sent to kill corrupted leaders profiting from the war. As you carry out your missions, you find yourself tangled up in a conflict that threatens not only the Holy Land, but the entire world. Master the skills, tactics, and weapons of history's deadliest and most secretive clan of warriors. Plan your attacks, strike without mercy, and fight your way to escape. Experience a living, breathing world in which all your actions have consequences. Crowds react to your moves, and will either help or hinder you on your quests. Do whatever it takes to achieve your objectives.

Fallout 3 ($7.49)

Vault-Tec engineers have worked around the clock on an interactive reproduction of Wasteland life for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own vault. Fallout 3 includes an expansive world, unique combat, shockingly realistic visuals, tons of player choice, and an incredible cast of dynamic characters. Every minute is a fight for survival against the terrors of the outside world – radiation, Super Mutants, and hostile mutated creatures. From Vault-Tec®, America’s First Choice in Post-Nuclear Simulation™.

Oblivion ($14.99)

Step inside the most richly detailed and vibrant game-world ever created. Oblivion is the latest chapter in the epic Elder Scrolls saga. With a powerful combination of freeform gameplay and unprecedented graphics, you can unravel the main quest at your own pace or explore the vast world and find your own challenges.

All of these games are already backward compatible, so you can buy them from the links above and start playing them on your Xbox One or One S right now. Beginning on November 7 though, the 4K assets for the games will be made available.
