Pokémon GO team announces September Community Day details

Niantic has announced the details of the upcoming Pokémon GO Community Day which is scheduled to take place on September 22nd. For three hours that day, you’ll be able to catch Chikorita, the Grass-type starter Pokémon from the Johto region that made its debut in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver way back in 1999 in Japan. Aside from catching Chikorita, you’ll also be able to earn 3x Catch XP throughout the event, making levelling up easier.

If you’re interesting in nabbing a Chikorita, you’ll need to be out looking at a certain time of the day on September 22nd, the details are as follows:

Asia-Pacific: 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. JST (GMT +9)
Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. UTC (GMT +0)
The Americas and Greenland: 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. PDT (GMT −7)

In the announcement, the Pokémon GO team said:

“A Grass-type Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region, Chikorita will appear in the wild for three hours. And if you evolve a Bayleef into Meganium during that three-hour window, your Meganium will know a special move to be announced later. Put those TMs away, Trainers! This move will be available only to Meganium caught or evolved during Community Day.”

Niantic announced that following the September Community Day, there will be more of the events on October 21st and November 10th. It hasn’t yet announced which new Pokémon will be featured or which bonuses you’ll get but they will keep us updated over the coming months.
