Google's AI beats Bing and Siri in IQ test

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the smartest AI of them all? Google, it would seem.

A group of researchers - Feng Liu, Yong Shi, and Ying Liu - have developed an IQ test aimed at grading the intelligence of different search engines. Their results suggest Google's AI is the smartest of the bunch, coming in at a score of 47.28 based on tests carried out last year. To put this in perspective, the average score for an 18-year-old human is 96, while that for a six-year-old is 55.5.

Trailing behind Google, at a considerable distance, were Bing and Baidu, with scores of 31.98 and 32.92, respectively. Even farther behind the bunch is Apple's Siri, which only scored 23.9, suggesting it's only half as intelligent as Google.

The study also references earlier studies by the group that indicate that while modern search engines may still be less intelligent than a six-year-old, they're quickly closing the gap. An earlier study in 2014 rated Google's and Baidu's AI at scores of 26.5 and 23.5, respectively. This indicates an increase in intelligence by a factor of almost 80% in just two years in Google's case, and is perhaps a sign of the impending AI apocalypse we've heard so much about.

The study also considers a classification system for the different degrees, and types, of artificial intelligence, which you can peruse at your leisure here.
