Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet unboxing and first impressions

Announced back in January at CES 2017, the new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet is similar to one of Microsoft's Surface Pro devices in many ways, mainly in that it's a tablet with a detachable keyboard. The tablet itself also follows the same general design, but it has some key differences.

In fact, there are some distinct advantages that Lenovo's tablet has. For one thing, it offers USB Type-C, something that Microsoft has opted not to use in any of its Surface devices. But of course, you still get a USB Type-A port and a Mini DisplayPort on the X1 Tablet.

There are also some more minor advantages. For example, the keyboard cover actually closes magnetically, so when you close it, it actually stays closed. The keyboard also has a pen loop built into the cover, while Microsoft's devices use a magnetic attachment.

The one downside is going to be that it's powered by an Intel Core i5 Y-series chip, which is the rebranded Core m5 for Kaby Lake. I'll be testing that more thoroughly over the next few weeks while I review the device, but until then, check out the unboxing and first impressions.
