Microsoft celebrates Xbox Live's 10th birthday with sales and contests

10 years ago today, after months of prior beta testing, Microsoft officially turned on the switch for the Xbox Live online gaming service for the original Xbox game console. Today, the company is celebrating its 10th anniversary with some price cuts on Xbox Live Arcade games and some cool giveaways.

Microsoft's Larry Hryb is already getting things started on his Twitter account; he's giving out 10 free one year subscriptions to Xbox Live to his followers every hour for the next several hours. He states that people who want the chance to win must message him, with the #XboxLIVEis10 hashtag " ... where you tell me your favorite memory, game or experience you had on Xbox LIVE over the past 10-years."

Microsoft also has some special sales on Xbox Live Arcade games for today and tomorrow only, where a number of titles are 50 percent off. The recent Kinect exclusive game Wreckateer is also free to download today and Friday. You can also download a special gamer pic between now and November 22nd to be eligible to win prizes, including one of those cool custom Xbox 360 Xbox Live 10th anniversary consoles that a few lucky people got sent to them by Microsoft this week.
