Microsoft's UWP Skype Preview app is now available for Windows 10 Mobile

Microsoft today announced that the new UWP version of Skype will now be available on Windows 10 Mobile as well as on PCs.

Perhaps the most important feature that the new app includes is group calling, a feature that was never made available to the old Windows Phone 8.1 app. Users can now have up to 25 friends join a call on their Windows 10 device.

The news shouldn't come as a surprise, as Microsoft did promise that a Mobile version of the UWP Skype app would show up at some point. Various builds of the app for phones have been leaked and have been very well-received.

Microsoft has an update for the PC version as well, adding features that are found on other platforms: "you can call mobiles and landlines at low rates, leave and receive voicemails, put a call on hold, and answer a call if you’re already on a call with call waiting."

Finally, the company has promised to integrate SMS functionality into the app later this summer. This will be good news for many, since Microsoft scrapped its Messaging Everywhere project, which was originally slated to arrive in the Anniversary Update.

The new app is available for Insiders right now. If you're not an Insider, no worries. You won't have to wait much longer, as the Anniversary Update is only about two weeks away.
