THQ delays South Park RPG to Q1 2013

Fans of South Park will have to wait a little longer to play a good game based on their favorite TV show. THQ confirmed today that the South Park RPG, developed by Obsidian Entertainment, is now due to be released in the first quarter of 2013, rather than the fall of 2012 as originally announced.

THQ revealed the news today as part of its quarterly financial results. For the quarter that ended on March 31, the publisher had revenues of $170.7 million, compared to revenues of $248.6 million from the same period a year ago. THQ recorded a net loss of $53.2 million for the quarter, compared to a loss of $44.1 million for the same period a year ago.

THQ did confirm today during its conference call with analysts that Darksiders II, the sequel to its hit third person action-adventure game, will be released on August 14. THQ also said that pre-orders for Darksiders II are currently at five times that of the original.

On the bad news side, THQ also confirmed that it is currently seeking another company to help release Devil's Third, the third person action game created by Tomonobu Itagaki, the main creator behind the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden. THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell said that the game no longer fits with THQ's profile, although he added that they are working with Itagaki and his team at Valhalla Game Studios to find another home for Devil's Third.
