DDR2 Demand Expected to Increase

Demand for DDR2 memory is expected to dramatically increase in the first quarter of 2006 thanks in part to AMD's forthcoming M2 socket processors and Intel's mainstream 945 chipset.

AMD's M2 socket processors will be available in single and dual core varieties, supporting a 940-pin configuration and DDR2, reports indicate. The chip maker has already begun delivering samples, with volume shipments expected in Q1 2006.

Intel's increased use of its 945 chipset will convert major OEMs almost exclusively to DDR2, adding to already increasing demands.
