Google launches 'Works with Chromebook' program for accessory certification

Google has launched a "Works with Chromebook" program to certify accessories that will work without any issues with Chromebook. The products that will be certified by Google include keyboards, mice, cables, connectors, power adapters, and hubs. Google will be testing all the accessories to ensure they "comply with the Chromebook's compatibility standard."

As of now, the Works with Chromebook site lists 13 leading accessory brands: AbleNet, Anker, Belkin, Logitech, Brydge, Cable Matters, Elecom, Hype, Kensington, Plugable, Satechi, StarTech, and Targus. Certified accessories with the 'works with Chromebook' logo will first start showing up in the United States, Canada, and Japan

You will be able to purchase certified Chromebook accessories from Amazon.com, Best Buy, Walmart, and Bic Camera (Japan). Google is working on expanding the availability of accessories to other retailers and countries as well. You can find more details about the Works with Chromebook program over here.

Google already has a similar accessory certification program 'Made by Google' for its Pixel and Nest products. This program should lead to some high-quality accessories showing up for the Chromebooks in the market in the foreseeable future. It will also ensure that all accessories for Chromebooks are compatible with each other and do not cause any kind of issues, which is especially required for USB-C cables and chargers.
