SanDisk shows off 8TB portable SSD and more at CES

CES is the stage for both real products that may be coming soon and wild prototypes that aren't quite feasible yet. For the past couple of years, SanDisk has had some interesting prototypes, like a 4TB flash drive that it showed off last year.

This year, it's doing it again with an 8TB portable SSD that has the added bonus of supporting 20Gbps speeds over USB. According to the company, the device still fits in a pocket, so you can carry around massive amounts of data and transfer it relatively quickly. Or you could, if it was a real product - there's no indication if such a device will come to market anytime soon.

But if you're looking for real products, SanDisk has you covered, too. The company is launching the all-new 1TB SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Luxe USB Type-C. If you can get past that name, it's a pretty impressive flash drive, with 1TB of capacity and both USB Type-C and Type-A connectors so you can use it with PCs and phones alike. It's USB 3.1 Gen 1, so you won't be getting the fastest speeds, but it should still be fast enough for most use cases.

The Dual Drive Luxe will be available sometime this quarter, and the 1TB model will run you $249.99. The base 32GB model starts at $10.99, and there are plenty of options in between. If you're interested, you can pre-order it now.

The SanDisk brand also has another new product called ibi. It's a storage device with 1TB of space, and it's meant to be used as your personal cloud backup for photos and videos. Through the companion app, users can set up automatic backup, and the ibi can connect to multiple devices so you can backup photos from your entire family, for example. You can also plug in USB devices to have ibi collect all your photos and videos from it.

The ibi also has some more features, like the ability to privately share files with friends through a feature called Inner Circle. You can also stream your photos and videos to a TV through Amazon's Fire TV, Google's Chromecast, or Roku devices.

The ibi is available right now and it costs $129.99.

Finally, Western Digital's WD_Black brand has some new devices for gamers. There's a new WD_Black P50 Game Drive SSD, which the company says its the industry's first game drive with USB speeds up to 20Gbps. You can get it with up to 2TB of capacity, and that will run you $499.99 when it's available. For now, only 500GB and 1TB models are available, for $179.99 and $249.99, respectively.

For Xbox One gamers, specifically, there are two new drives, the P10 Game Drive and the D10 Game Drive, both of which are HDDs. The former has up to 5TB of capacity, which is currently on sale for $139.99, and the latter is a massive 12TB drive, and it costs $299.99. Both are available right now.
