Skype for Windows 8.1 updated, adds a few new features

Microsoft is releasing Windows 8.1 Update today, but the company also has a new version Skype to download for users of that OS as well. The new update brings the version number of the app up to 2.7 and it contains a couple of new features.

As described on the Skype blog, one of the new additions allows users to remain invisible while online but still receive any chat messages that might be directed towards them. The "sign out" feature has also returned, allowing anyone to log off Skype completely.

The blog post hints that the Skype team will be talking more in the future about the topic of staying signed onto the service but not appearing online. It stated,

Why? Because helping users stay plugged in but without getting overwhelmed or feeling disturbed is a tricky challenge and we look to our users to tell us what works best for them.

Last week during BUILD 2014, Microsoft announced changes coming to Skype for the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 update, including added support for the mobile operating system's Cortana digital assistant.
