The problems for Uber continue to grow in the U.K. as the company lost its license in another major city, Sheffield. Back in September, the company's was denied a license to operate in London, which the company has appealed in court.
The company's license in Sheffield was suspended by the local council after it failed to respond to requests about its management. The ride-hailing service will still be allowed to operate in the city until December 18. Uber can also appeal the suspension and can continue to operate in the city.
A Sheffield City Council spokesperson said:
“Uber’s licence was suspended last Friday (29 November) after the current licence holder failed to respond to requests, made by our licensing team, about the management of Uber. It is legally allowed to operate up to 18 December, and if it chooses to appeal this suspension it can continue to operate until the appeal is heard. If it decides against an appeal the suspension will come into force.
Earlier this year in October, the company notified the council to update the license because the person named on the license is leaving the company. However, the council said it's not possible, and Uber has to apply for a new license which is still being processed.
“While we are in regular contact with the council, we did not receive the correspondence the council refers to as they sent the letters to an incorrect address,” an Uber spokesman said.
