XWidget 1.92

XWidget  is an engine to display and run widgets which offer information like CPU load, and battery life, RSS feeds and weather forecasts, right on your desktop and provides access to frequently used tools and apps. Widgets are like mini programs, they store notes and to-do lists, launch your favorite apps, and show which track your favorite music player is playing and lots more. And it is multi-platform too. You can easily run all your widgets on Windows and Android, with little or no modification.

XWidget has a very tiny resource footprint, and will run perfectly on any hardware powering Windows XP through Windows 8.

XWidget is just one of many desktop customizing tools available out there with which you can customize your Windows PC. Though it is armed with a powerful and flexible arsenal of features, it is definitely surprising to see the creative ways that those features are used by various customizers to customize the desktop in great ways. However, it is important to understand what XWidget is and what it isn’t:

  • XWidget is not a compatibility layer for Mac OSX widgets. Though its features are strikingly similar to Apple’s offering, yet, it is not an attempt to allow their execution under Windows. XWidget is only compatible with those designed especially for itself, with the powerful integrated designer. However, if you wish, you can port those widgets to XWidget.
  • XWidget is not a platform for desktop tweaking i.e., you can put widgets but not change the appearance, style and themes of Windows. (Not to be confused to XWidget Widget Themes). It does not change your Windows visual style or the appearance of your taskbar, Start button, desktop, or other built-in Windows or third-party components.
  • XWidget is not a replacement for any other applications that it interacts with. For example, a "media player" widget may let you pause, play or skip to the next track in your media player, or a system monitoring widget might show hardware statistics, but the program itself must still be running in the background for the widget to work.
  • XWidget is not a UI toolkit. You can use it to design widgets not an application. It’s in no way like XUL, WPF or anything like a replacement for windows applications.

What's new in this version:

  • Add: XWidget.exe support cmd line to Show/Hide widget by widget's FolderName: showWidget:folderName, hideWidget:foderName, showHideWidget:folderName. etc: "d:\soft\xwidget\xwidget.exe hidewidget:htchome"
  • Some bugs fixed
  • Improved stability
