According to a new rumor by credible Japanese website, Macotakara, who was among the first to predict that the headphone jack would be dropped from the iPhone 7, the traditional USB port (or USB-A) will no longer be available on the new MacBook Pro. The site also said that Apple will be ditching the 11-inch MacBook Air, and claims that Apple will unveil a 15.4 and 13.3-inch MacBook Pro at an event sometime this month.
There have been plenty of leaks already surrounding the new MacBook Pro that allege the new models will include an OLED touch bar display panel as well as embedded Touch ID support, and a thinner and lighter form factor.
If the report is true, MacBook Pros will only come with USB Type-C and Thunderbolt 3 ports. As with the new MacBook, you'd presumably charge it through the USB-C port and connect peripherals via Thunderbolt 3. That would also mean you would need some kind of USB 3.0 adapter, since the majority of storage and other peripherals still use the traditional standard. For the MacBook, Apple sells a $79 USB-C dock that gives you USB 3.0, USB-C for power and an HDMI connection.
Apple will release a new 13.3-inch MacBook Air, but discontinue the 11-inch model, according to the same report. The company has yet to set a date for the announcement of the refreshed MacBook line-up, expected later this month.
