DVD Cloning Ban Under Siege

Thanks again sMk for this story. On Tuesday, 321 Studios filed a complaint in U.S. District Court against nine major motion picture production companies to preserve its right to sell DVD Copy Plus, software for making backup copies of DVDs.

The suit challenges the constitutionality of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), a law passed in 1998 to address the issue of copyright protection for digital content. The law states, "No person shall circumvent a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title." DVDs are protected by just such a measure, the Content Scrambling System.
