Google Maps' new iOS 6 app screenshots leaked?

Ever since Apple decided to dump Google Maps for its own flawed map app for iOS 6, people have been wondering when, or even if, Google would release its own map app for Apple's latest mobile OS. Officially, Google has made no promises on this subject.

Now, a San Francisco-based mobile app developer named Ben Guild has posted up a few, and very blurry, screenshots of what he claims is an alpha build of the Google Maps app for iOS 6 on his website. He offers no word on how he obtained this early build.

Guild does claim that Google Maps for iOS 6 is vector-based and supports the four inch screen of Apple's iPhone 5. He also claims that it has "two-finger rotation to any angle" and that it is "super fast."

While Google may indeed be working on a map app for iOS 6, the big question is whether or not Apple will allow the map app to be made available for download. A week after the launch of iOS 6, Apple CEO Tim Cook apologized for the flaws in its own map app and even suggested people use, among other choices, the web-based Google Maps that can be access via the Safari web browser.
