Hugo Barra leaves Xiaomi after three and a half years

For the past three and a half years, Hugo Barra has been Xiaomi's International Vice President. Since leaving his post at Google in 2013, Barra has helped the company expand its smartphone business globally. He will now leave Xiaomi to return to Silicon Valley.

During Barra's time at Xiaomi,, the firm has launched a wide range of devices that include smartphones, like the Redmi Pro, to a VR headset and even a wearable band. Xiaomi was able to launch its products in more than 20 countries across Asia and Europe. In India alone, the company has made $1 billion in annual revenues last year.

According to Barra's post on Facebook, even though he enjoyed his journey at Xiaomi, the distance from his life at Silicon Valley was starting to affect his health:

"(...) what I've realized is that the last few years of living in such a singular environment have taken a huge toll on my life and started affecting my health. My friends, what I consider to be my home, and my life are back in Silicon Valley, which is also much closer to my family. Seeing how much I've left behind these past few years, it is clear to me that the time has come to return."

Barra didn't mention what's next for him in Silicon Valley, but that he would be "embarking on a new adventure" there after some well deserved rest.
