Nintendo is quite an expert at making seemingly questionable decisions, and after revealing a ton of details about Super Mario Maker 2 a couple of weeks ago, the company has announced yet another big presentation before E3. Pokémon Sword and Shield, which were announced back in February for the Nintendo Switch, will be getting a dedicated Pokémon Direct event on June 5th.
Direct presentations focused on a single game are not new for Nintendo, and Pokémon ones specifically have been a recurring event. This specific Direct will last about 15 minutes, and it's likely to go over many aspects of the games. The original presentation featured small clips of video from many locations across the game world, a map and name of the new region featured in the games, and the three new starter Pokémon - Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble.
That leaves a lot of information in regards to the story, new creatures, and new mechanics that might be included up in the air, which is what we're likely to learn about during this presentation. A release date is also likely to be revealed.
What's most curious about this announcement is that Nintendo has now pulled two of its biggest titles for this year from its E3 presentation. Granted, they could still be featured, but with a dedicated presentation just a few days away from the E3 event, and given how much we know about Super Mario Maker 2 now, it seems like Nintendo wants to focus on other titles in Los Angeles. It'll be interesting to see if the event, which is taking place on June 9, can still be appealing without these two games.
